Setup Steps
1
Install SpendGuard
Install SpendGuard from the Shopify App Store and authorize it to access your Shopify store.
2
Connect Google Ads
In the SpendGuard app, click "Connect Google Ads" and authorize SpendGuard to access your Google Ads account. SpendGuard will request permissions to view and manage ads.
3
Create a Guard
Create your first guard by:
- Selecting your Google Ads account
- Choosing which ads to monitor
- Selecting products to monitor
- Setting inventory rules:
- Products: Pause when total available inventory (across variants) is ≤ X, resume when ≥ Y
- If monitoring multiple products, choose pause mode: pause when ANY product is low (default) or when ALL products are low
Troubleshooting
Google Ads connection issues
If SpendGuard can't access your Google Ads account:
- Check that your OAuth token hasn't expired (reconnect if needed)
- Verify that SpendGuard has the necessary permissions in your Google Ads account
- Try disconnecting and reconnecting your Google Ads account
Inventory not updating
If SpendGuard isn't detecting inventory changes:
- Verify that Shopify webhooks are configured correctly (this happens automatically on install)
- Check that your products have inventory tracking enabled in Shopify
- Ensure your guard is monitoring the correct products
- Check the audit log to see if inventory updates are being received
Ads not pausing
If ads aren't pausing when inventory drops:
- Verify that the guard is enabled (not paused)
- Check that SpendGuard has write permissions for your Google Ads account
- Review the audit log to see if actions are being attempted
- Ensure your inventory threshold is set correctly (remember: products use total across variants, not per-variant)
- If monitoring multiple products, check your pause mode setting (ANY vs ALL)
